Essential
Oils to Avoid During Pregnancy The mind
and body benefits of using essential oils topically are well known
however, compounds in certain essential oils have hormone-like behavior
that can have unwanted affects on your system. Other oils can be
irritating to the skin. Leading aromatherapy experts have published
lists of oils that they believe are best avoided throughout pregnancy.
Basq performed extensive research and expert consultations to compile
a list of essential oils best avoided during pregnancy. We make
a point not to use any of the oils listed below in our products.
We can not infer any ingredient not included on
the list is safe. This list is meant to be informative but not intended
to replace the advice or counsel of your doctor. If you have questions
regarding a particular oil, or any ingredient, please consult with
your licensed medical practitioner.
Some essential oils could be abortifacient
(cause miscarriage), mainly due to their potentially toxic nature,
and should not be used during pregnancy. There are several oils
that should be avoided due to the emmenagogue properties (stimulate
uterine muscles) they contain. Always consult with your doctor and
be sure to read the ingredient lists of products you use during
pregnancy.
