For founders Kelli Kenny and Lauren Parisier, the desire to create Basq came out of their own personal experiences during pregnancy. From sensitive skin to stretch marks and sleeplessness nights—both women were experiencing these changes without any great solutions. Basq is their idea of delivering the highest quality pregnancy skin care that delivers real results in a pampering and luxurious way.

For Kelli, her concerns ranged from the unknowns about stretch marks to experiencing fatigue and sleeplessness. Like most women today, she was trying to balance a lot while pregnant– work, family and exercise. Trying to unwind and relax during pregnancy can be a real challenge, even though your body and mind are telling you to do so. For Lauren, blemishes were a skin care problem during pregnancy. It came as a surprise when her dermatologist advised against using the everyday products that seemed the logical choice and vetoed her daily anti-aging products.

Lauren and Kelli found that other pregnant women in their circle of friends shared the same pregnancy concerns like stretch marks, swollen legs and blemishes. There seemed to be nothing out there that addressed the changing skin care needs during pregnancy in a beautiful, straight forward way. The idea of Basq was born - - pregnancy skin care products that let you care for yourself and feel cared for at the same time.

Unity in a Message

One of the most interesting parts about creating Basq was hearing the voices of other women. They talked to hundreds of pregnant women and new mothers through focus groups and one-on-one interviews. There was certainly no shortage of opinions on what it means to be pregnant; but, there were poignant moments of unity on how pregnant women view their experiences:

• I’m still Me, baby and all -- Elvis has NOT left the building;
• Why not experience pregnancy with as much beauty and style as possible?
• Honestly, with all the changes I’ve had to make, I’d love a little TLC just for me.

Extraordinary effort was undertaken to reflect these women’s attitudes and philosophies about pregnancy today. A team of experts from the fields of beauty, aromatherapy, product science, and ingredient safety was assembled to help create the line.
